Tech Tuesdays | 10 of #TheSkyBoxSuite's Favorite Sports Podcasts, Blogs, + YT Channels

Although the influx of blogs and things of that nature increases by the minute, I try my absolute best to engage with my favorite creatives and bloggers. Now that social media has more of a monetary value attached to it, it's also becoming harder to find those hidden gems in all the who's who of the popular crowd, especially when it comes to minorities in specific industries, such as sports. Granted, a couple of the ones that are listed here have large platforms, but the rest don't get the credit they deserve.

That being said, here are #TheSkyBoxSuite's top 10 favorite podcasts, blogs, and YouTube channels that revolve around sports:

#1. The Six / His & Hers

If you know anything about me at all, whether it be in real life, on social media, or from reading the blog, by now you'd know how much admiration I have for Jemele Hill. She's such an inspiration and it's been so rewarding to watch her career take off the way it has. Fortunately, her and co-host, Michael Smith, didn't do away completely with His & Hers once #TheSix first aired on SportsCenter. Definitely one of my favorites to tune into.

#2. Unscripted Podcast

Some time circa last summer, a former classmate of mine promoted the Unscripted pod via Facebook, who was a guest on the show that week. I clicked the links out of boredom, binge listened the same night, and I've been hooked ever since. There's such a vibe that goes along with an easygoing flow of conversation, where they cover a variety of topics, but focus primarily on sports. Over the past few months, I've even gotten a chance to get to know the main host, Gavo, and he's a really cool dude. FYI, be on the lookout for our collaboration in the very near future.

#3. Above the Rim Podcast

Above the Rim, which is obviously all about basketball, is a recent favorite that I subscribed to some time last month. Still relatively new to the podern world, the host, Justin a.k.a. Jus Blaze, has this naturally, straight from BK, gritty, yet informative approach. Any given Sunday, I'll find myself randomly browsing through the feed, especially on days when I need my regular dose of straight hoops talk.

Blogs

#4. Complex | Complex Sports

I truly respect the business model and overall marketing strategy of COMPLEX. It's a powerhouse brand I've been following and taking notes from for several years. Besides other prominent digital publications like Bleacher Report, which I use mostly as an iPhone app, Complex Sports is one of my favorite resources for immediate sports news and updates.

#5. Jill Munroe | Jocks and Stiletto Jill

Another woman in sports journalism who I absolutely admire is sports culture analyst, Jill Munroe a.k.a. Stiletto Jill. She was one of the first black, female sports bloggers I heard about back in 2009 and even as a pioneer of this sports blogging thing, has pretty much been the only one who has remained consistent in the upkeep of her blog and brand. She has a really unique angle that redefines sports blogging and has been able to make an incredible name for her self in the sports journalism industry.

#6. Shana Renee | All Sports Everything

When I originally had the idea to run a sports blog in 2012, I went on a relentless hunt to locate more women of color who were sports bloggers. To this day, I'm convinced there are more of us out there, but they're just incredibly hard to find. Shana Renee has received national attention in her field and has even been invited to chat face-to-face with Jemele Hill on the old His & Hers. Her accolades, experience level, and sports knowledge definitely make her another great candidate for a top 10 favorite sports bloggers.

#7. HashtagBasketball

These days, I pay really close attention to who follows me on Twitter, because I personally think it's important to take notice of who has chosen to keep up with me, especially when it comes to my brand. The other day, @HashtagBasketball followed me and for whatever reason, they stood out to me. Attracted to the name and theme, I was inclined to see what they were about. Not only did I fall in love instantly, with everything from the design to the content, I was also inspired to be more consistent, more focused and not overly versatile with my own brand. I haven't had much of a chance to navigate the site, but I'm looking forward to digging more into the blog and what it has to offer.

#8. Chymere A. | The Sky Box Suite

Last but not least, of course it wouldn't be right to not throw in a shameless plug in honor of my baby, #TheSkyBoxSuite, because if you don't believe in yourself, who else will? No, but seriously, I'm very proud of the content here and the progress I've made in building my brand over the past several months. Honestly, there have been days I wanted to give up, when keeping up with all the headlines while still trying to find my footing was a bit overwhelming, but just know there is more content coming and so much in store for this brand. I've been at this blogging thing for a while now and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
