Tidal Wave Wednesdays no.7 | The Cavs-Warriors Trilogy + May in Review

The NBA Finals are finally here and, yet again, we have yet another match up between Cleveland and Golden State. Granted, both teams' starting lineup has shifted a bit, I'm a little bored with the saga. After witnessing the same 2 teams make it to the finals three years in row, one would think the luster is subdued, because after a while, it becomes predictable and redundant. However, what I will say: just like those classic Bird vs Magic battles or the notorious Lakers-Celtics rivalry in the 80's, it'll definitely be one of those duels that basketball fans will talk about forever.

What it boils down to is arguably the best player in the league (Lebron James) up against the best defensive squad in the league (GSW). I don't believe there will be this epic, effortless blowout from either side, but I will be tuning in to see if the playing field is as leveled as I think it will be. However, personal feelings aside, one of the most impressive aspects overall is that this is the first time in NBA history that that same 2 teams are meeting up for the third consecutive year in a NBA Finals game.

The Cavs best weapon is obviously Lebron, who is making an appearance in the finals for the seventh year in a row and the first player to ever lead 2 teams to the finals. The numbers that he's been able to accumulate in his career confirm just how powerful he is post-season, to the point where his significance as a player won't change, even if his team doesn't get to take home a trophy again this year. Along with this, he has a conglomerate of all-stars playing alongside him to add fuel to fire, which includes Kyrie Irving who has been putting up astronomical numbers as well.

With Game 1 taking place at the Oracle Arena, giving the Warriors home court advantage, they're the favorite to start this series off with a win. The odds against the powerhouse that lies in Cleveland are stacked a tad bit higher this year, especially since Golden State added Durant to their roster over the summer. To add to that, they've been way more consistent, and with a complete All-Star package on their roster, each player has done a damn good job at maintaining their position on both sides of the ball.

Who's my pick? It's a tough call I'm going with Warriors in Game 5. I'll see if that prediction changes by Game 2.
