Letter from the Editor | Focusing on What Matters

Yes, the monthly newsletter is a little late, but allow me to explain…

Super Bowl LIII is right around the corner, All-Star Weekend is the same month, and it won’t be long before we’re in NBA playoff season again. The year is flying by and our anticipation to watch the best vs. best is rising just as fast. Hopefully, this time will serve as an opportunity to focus in on the big moments as far as content creation goes without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Growing up, my favorite thing about watching a game on television or attending a sporting event - aside from the game itself - was taking notes in my journals and preparing a write up or pretending I had a press pass like I was a real sports journalist with a publication to report to the next day. This translated to eventually creating a space online where I could flex my journalistic muscles a bit and write about topics I’m not only interested in, but also passionate about.

In most sports, the first quarter is where the anticipation and excitement is at a peak. Fans are scattered about the stadiums/arenas, adorned with their respective team paraphernalia, and optimism is at an all time high. Throughout the game, the momentum changes pace and the excitement either continues to build or it diminishes slowly. Simply put, that’s how I feel about this brand and I’m still extremely proud of what its becoming. From the climax to the build up, I love it all.

I know I’ve been a little M.I.A., but it is my goal as the H.D.I.C. (Head Diva in Charge) to keep up the momentum throughout the whole season, not just expend all my energy in the first quarter hyping what is to come. I had to take a little break to get my head in the game; take some time gain perspective and to envision what I want the third year running this operation to look like…and as you can probably guess, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. What’s to come isn’t so much about getting news out as fast as possible, but more about using our unique voices to construct original angles to come up with stories behind the stats and some of the world’s greatest athletes in professional sports.

As editor-in-chief of this brand, I really want to focus in on everything that means the world to us here on The Sky Box Suite in 2019. Yes, that means more consistent content, more community involvement, more active on social media, and the list goes on, but it also entails sticking to a solid game plan and doing what works best, as well as being fluid enough to add to whatever strategy we come up with as a team. The work we put in in the front office will likely determine the success (or the downfall) of this young, thriving, always-looking-for-ways-to-improve franchise. As the saying goes, third time’s a charm, and I believe 120% that to be the case for season III of The Sky Box Suite.

So stay tuned, great things are in store…and I promise it won’t be another month before you see a post from me again.
