Tidal Wave Wednesdays no.12 | NFL Week 8 Recap, NFL Trades, Young NBA Teams, + More!!!

Welcome to November, as we enter week 9 of regular season NFL, officially 3 weeks removed from NBA opening night, and although I don't get into baseball much, tonight is the grande finale of the World Series with a game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros. Needless to say, it's prime-time pandemonium in the professional sports world and I am all the way here for it.

What a time...

What does the NFL climate look like coming into week 9? Well, other than the fact that Philadelphia Eagles are top team in the NFC, but also number 1 in the entire league right now, it's looking quite different from last season when Cowboys and the Giants dominated the NFC East. Of course, there is still time for other teams, such as the Falcons to re-rank in standing in the NFC South or even the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East, who have the same record as Atlanta in the AFC East. So far, the most noticeable differences this season are in in the NFC. However, there are a few match ups on the horizon before I can confidently make any Super Bowl (which actually isn't that far away at this point) predictions, but overall, it's good football, the playing field is relatively even across the board, and you never really know what will happen next in this game.

NFL Trade

  • Panthers' WR, Kelvin Benjamin gets traded to the Buffalo Bills.
  • Bills' DT, Marcell Dareus gets traded to Jaguars.
  • NE Patriots' QB, Jimmy Garoppolo gets traded to San Francisco 49'ers
  • Houston Texans' LT Duane Brown gets traded to Seattle Seahawks
  • Dolphins' RB, Jay Ajayi gets traded to Eagles
  • 49'ers CB, Rashard Robinson gets traded to NY Jets

Let's talk about it, briefly.

I'd hate to keep bringing up the Eagles, only because I feel very proud of my team at this point in time and I don't want to be bias, but I honestly think Philadelphia had the best deal of this trade. Why? Top 10 pre-season pick in fantasy draft, fantastic running game, top 5 in rushing yards per game...I think Ajayi will fit right in to what the Eagles has going on right now. His talents and skill set absolutely contributes greatly to the elite status of Philadelphia's Offensive line. Great chess move there.

Hopping to the other end, which team took the biggest L? I'll go with the Bills; not because they now have Kelvin Benjamin, but because they still don't have a viable QB. Although Bills' GM, Brandon Beane, stated that he wasn't anticipating any more trade moves, I suppose this one was a shocker for all of us and probably a money move more than anything.

Jimmy Garoppolo may be a good fit for the 49'ers, I don't know. Honestly, after the whole Kaepernick fiasco, I don't too much care about what the front office in San Francisco decides to do from here on out.

Despite my reservations coming into the season about my own team, this new Laker squad is slowly trying to win my heart. It's still strange to watch a Laker game post Kobe, but I can see that they're finding their grove and the chemistry is starting to blossom. Kuzma is phenomenal, Ball isn't so bad when he's confident, and Josh Hart's energy and focus brings the game justice. All 3 rookies have a tremendous amount of potential to unlock and hopefully fans are able to watch them grow in this game together. The Lakers also inspire me to take a look at the other young teams in the league currently  (Boston Celtics, Sacremento Kings, Phoenix Suns, to name a few) and what they offer on a competitive level.

I feel a post brewing in that regard, but all I have to say for now is: make Kobe proud, guys.

Holiday szn

It's November 1st and I'm already looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas day games. It's simply one of the best times of the year in my opinion and the one American tradition that is dear to me; to be surrounded by family, good food, and get cozy in front of the TV to catch the games.

Thanksgiving day we have football...

  • Vikings vs. Lions @ 12:30 pm
  • Chargers vs. Cowboys @ 4:30 pm
  • Giants vs. Redskins @ 8:30 pm

The night before Thanksgiving, basketball is on...

  • Mavericks vs Grizzlies
  • Nuggets vs Rockets
  • Magic vs Timberwolves (8PM)
  • Bucks vs Suns
  • Bulls vs. Jazz
  • Lakers vs Kings (9PM)

Then we have our Christmas day NBA lineup:

Christmas Eve kicks off week 16 of the NFL...

  • Chargers vs. Jets
  • Jaguars vs. 49'ers
  • Seahawks vs. Cowboys
  • Giants vs. Cardinals

And my team plays Monday Night Football Christmas day...

  • Steelers vs. Texans
  • Eagles vs. Raiders

Needless to say, I'm super excited and cannot wait for the holiday game days coming up, not to mention the NYE rush!

'Tis the season!
