#EaglesvsCowboys: Tomorrow’s big rivalry game is a potential preview to the NFC East Championship game

Eagles are flying into Sunday night with an undefeated record, having not quite met their competitive match until this point. Cowboys, who are second to the Eagles in the NFC East, are coming in at 4-1, losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 1.

Both teams have a lot going for them this season. Even with Dak Prescott’s recent injuries, Cowboys still has Cooper Rush in the pocket as a suitable back up, while Eagles have sophomore QB Jalen Hurts who has made significant strides this season as a leading quarterback. Hurts comes with a rating of 97.4, 1,359 yards, and 108 out of 159 complete passes. Comparatively, Cooper Rush has proven to be equally capable with 6 touchdowns and 95.8 rating.

Another big playmaker and pace setter for Philadelphia is Miles Sanders, who has had 156 scrimmage yards (79 rushing,77 receiving), and a rushing touchdown in his only career home game against the Cowboys. In total, he’s had 43 carries for 184 yards and has scored 2 touchdowns in 4 games against the Cowboys. This season, he has carried 87/414 yards (a 4.8 average) and completed 3 touchdowns.

CeeDee Lamb and Jalen Hurts were both included in my evaluation of the Top 5 Picks from the NFL Draft Class of 2020 and watching them flourish has been rewarding for that reason alone, because I called it! Although I’m not sure how Lamb will hold up after his recent hip injury, but is expected to return to face the Eagles in Week 6.

When it comes to the O-lines, both the Eagles and the Cowboys have a special kind of chemistry brewing. Ezekiel Elliott, who has dominated in his 10 career games against the Eagles, will likely be aiming for his fourth consecutive game with 75 or more yards from scrimmage. Since the Eagles’ glorious Superbowl era of the 2016-2017 season, Elliott still takes the lead in rushing yards in the entire league at an astonishing 7,691. So far this season, he’s carried 81 times for 305 yards.

Of course, I’m a little bias as an Eagles fan, but I can say that objectively, I just know this is going to be a game worth tuning into. As the title of this article appropriately suggested, I do stand with Cowboys and Eagles fan alike who have every reason to believe tomorrow night’s big rival game will essentially be a nice little sneak peak into the NFC East championship game.

What is football without a rival matchup as good as this one for primetime Sunday Night Football?
