Tidal Wave Wednesdays no.10 | Life as an Eagles' fan, Westbrook's Mega Deal, WNBA Finals & More!!!

NFL

  • My first Sunday as a full fledged, fully committed Eagles fan was a success. It was a super close game, but the boys secured a 26-24 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. An excellent way to be invited into the fandom that is Eagles Nation. #FlyEaglesFly
  • Can we talk about how epic Oakland's own Marshawn Lynch's Sunday game day attire was? All the media around him, yet no one took a clear photo of him rocking his 'Trump vs. Everybody' t-shirt? hm. I just love that while he's NFL's most notorious wild boy, he honestly does not give af - no apologies offered.
  • Here's a thought: Could you imagine how amazing it would be for the Oakland Raiders to sign Kaepernick?? The world may not be ready, but I am.

WNBA

  • Sunday was also Game no. 4 of the WNBA finals. Minnesota Lynx won 80-69 against the Los Angeles Sparks to tie the series at 2-2, forcing a winner-take-all finale in Game no. 5 tonight.
  • Side note: I realized I don't cover WNBA enough on this blog. Now that the season is officially over, it's probably a little to late, but during off season I will be working on coming up with content that incorporates more focus on the ladies of this game as ell.

NBA

  • Los Angeles Lakers are planning to lock arms during the anthem all season long. I've already stated my piece regarding sports protest, because it doesn't really make sense to send a message when everyone isn't exactly on the same page or don't collectively understand what the protests are supposed to be about.
  • Preseason started this weekend with Denver pulling off a close 108-102 win against Golden State and Timberwolves defeating the Lakers 108-99. I'm not huge on keeping up with preseason, but it does determine which players are likely to dominate in the upcoming season.
  • Russell Westbrook just signed a five-year contract extension for $205 million with the Thunder. That's a historical deal, but also a huge risk as a veteran, but I commend whoever was responsible for that move. In the 9 years he's been in the game, he's proven to be an asset, as well as a good leader for the team and apparently the franchise thinks so too.

10.17.17

  • October 17th is right around the corner. I love that day already, simply because it's that fall intersection where NFL and NBA meet. NBA tip-off typically falls around week 6 or 7 of the NFL regular season. For the next few months, I'll be able to watch and fan girl over my 2 favorite sports at the same time.
  • 10.17 is also a day for the culture, as Gucci Man and Keyshia Ka'oir join in holy matrimony, live on BET. I don't know much about her, but this is hip-hop royalty at it's finest. I'm happy for sis! All of #blacktwitter will be in attendance at the Mane Event and I personally cannot wait!
