NBA

  • As mentioned on last week's Tidal Wave, NBA tip-off is 6 days away and I cannot wait, although it hasn't felt like it ended at all. Excited to see what the #LakeShow is about this season, how the recent trades work out, especially for Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas, as well as if the underdogs will still be seen as underdogs by the end of the season.

  • The National Basketball Association has recently made some alterations to next year's NBA All-Star game. What do I think about the changes? Feel free to read and discuss my 4 Reasons Why the new NBA All-Star Format will make NBA All-Star Weekend Great Again

NFL

  • It's been an incredible couple of weeks as an Eagles' fan. With an astounding 4-1 record in week 4, I'm beyond impressed with the season they're having and I've been so invested/excited about learning more about the franchise itself. Considering how much I never too much cared for Tony Romo as a Cowboys fan, I honestly believe we have quite an amazing QB in Carson Wentz. It will be so dope to see them fly all the way to Minneapolis for Super Bowl LII. Even if it doesn't get that far and it really is too soon to tell, I'm willing to stand with them regardless. I'm still upset that I didn't choose them from the beginning, it's proven to be one of the best sport-related decision I've made thusfar.

  • This week, Adrian Peterson, RB for the New Orleans Saints, was traded to the Arizona Cardinals. All I'll say about that one is...if they made that move sooner, Sunday nights game might've played out a little differently. I'm just saying...

  • Speaking of standing, I love what Eagles' safety, Malcolm Jenkins, said a while back about fighting for justice:

"I want to send a message that we will not easily be moved or deterred from fighting for justice," [...] "There are many players across the league who have joined me in working toward new legislation and reestablishing trust and opportunities in our communities, and you can expect to see much more of that."

  • With all the talk surrounding Kaepernick these past few years, I completely overlooked him and probably several others who continue to be unwavering in this fight for justice. As someone with very strong views and opinions when it comes to politics and justice, it's absolutely something I can appreciate. Read Jenkins' full statement here.

Jemele Hill's recent suspension from ESPN is upsetting, for so many varying reason. Of course the main reason being that I don't understand why black people as a whole just can't be great. Why are we expected to constantly conform and reshape opinions that are rightfully ours? Remain docile and silent for what? Jemele Hill is - by far - one of my biggest role models, especially as it relates to women of color in the sports journalism field and someone I highly respect and admire. I totally commend her tenacity and for always speaking up for what's right, despite what platform she's on, and I pray she continues to. If ESPN is not the platform for her, I will continue to support her.
