/It was WNBA Draft night 2018 when I noticed Diamond Deshields, who I would later discover is the daughter of 2 sport legends. She was wearing a hot pink/fuchsia satin blazer with a glitter tank top underneath, like a diamond wrapped in the finest linen. As I listened to her responses to media, I recall thinking to myself: What a bold statement!

One thing I’ll always notice first about someone’s style choice is the level of versatility it possess. Celebrity stylist, Amiraa Vee, who has styled DeShields in the past, is pretty good at creating a selection for clients that speak to who they are as a person. Diamonds eyes lit up like a candy store to discover items that were tomboy, but also feminine af, a genre I naturally gravitate towards and take a liking to myself. Not exactly sure if she has a personal stylist or if she chooses pieces and shops on her own, but whoever is picking out her outfits on a consistent basis is elite when it comes to fashion and personal style, at least in my humble opinion.

Diamond DeShields continually defines how a diamond shines by making bold statements through personal style and rocking it. That pink satin moment that initially caught my attention was a rather defining one, as her style choice that night actually mirrored of her journey through college to the WNBA and would end up evolving into a rather ironic portrayal of post-career challenges and set backs, both of which have been stacked with bold plays and risky executions. On and off the court, she’s been shining ever since. Since then, I’ve picked up on moments here and there, where she could - quite effortlessly - walk into a room or onto the hardwood of any arena, and completely shift the atmosphere, simply by existing, so much so that even Diamond is a fitting name.
